New Technology
Oalla
Oalla, a digital signage software was installed in the Priddy Library at the beginning of the fall 2015 semester. Its interactive features have allowed the Library to foster engagement with our visitors, such as an opportunity to post their favorite game as part of International Games Day or an interactive map as part of Banned Books Week. The software also allows us to promote Library exhibits, workshops and new services.
One Button Studio
Working in partnership with staff from University of Maryland Libraries Digital Systems & Stewardship Division, Priddy Library staff developed a mobile One Button Studio. This simple video setup allows users to record high-quality video projects and presentations by simply pushing a button and saving the recording to a flash drive. USG students, faculty and staff can borrow the One Button Studio for a variety of activities including: practicing a presentation for class, recording mock assignments for in-class critiques, studio components of larger video assignments, e-Portfolio introductions and content, delivering an introduction to an online course, presenting a research paper, recording a lecture when travel is required, and creating demonstration modules for training student workers.
Equil Smartmarker
The Library purchased three Equil Smartmarkers for faculty and students. An Equil Smartmarker turns an ordinary whiteboard into a live online session where anyone can view and collaborate on a project. Students can take it into a group study room or use it on a portable whiteboard to take notes and pair it to their smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop via Bluetooth. Others, both those in the room or elsewhere, can join the session via the EquilNote app. They can also participate fully in the session, adding comments and files to the notes. At the end of a session, the group’s notes and doodles can be saved onto whatever device is being used and shared as a PDF for others to see. Faculty can borrow a Smartmarker to save their notes when lecturing in a class to share with students later.
