EVENTS

Throughout the year Priddy Library organized and hosted events benefiting students and attracting patrons to visit the library.

Graduate Research & Writing Bootcamp (August 2021)

In collaboration with the USG Macklin Center for Academic Success (MCAS), the Library hosted 2 virtual Graduate Research & Writing Bootcamps in summer 2021. Through the workshops we reached 35 students total from 4 different graduate programs at USG. Graduate students gained familiarity with tools to find and manage sources for their research, ways to  strategically read at the graduate level, and insights on critically analyzing the methodologies and data described in research articles. They also developed skills in technical and scholarly writing.

Life During Covid Exhibit (Late September/October 2021)

The Library hosted the Life During Covid exhibit, as a way to welcome people back to campus and share their experiences during these unusual and challenging times. We invited staff, faculty, and students from the 9 partner institutions at USG and USG staff to submit their thoughts, poetry, photos, artwork (theirs or their children's) that reflect what the pandemic has meant to them. A small curatorial committee with Library and Student and Academic Services representatives collaborated to select and display the items that were submitted. We received photos, textiles, wood-turned objects, paintings, miniature glass houses, poetry, and children's artwork.

A collaboration between members of the Priddy Library and other libraries across the state, Tech Connect is a conference celebrating and building the library technology community through presentations, workshops, and demonstrations.

The theme of 2021’s event was “Adapt, Transform, Evolve.” The online conference focused on technologies adopted due to COVID that are worth keeping, and cultivating a mindset that makes us adaptable for the next challenge.

Children’s Book Drive (April 2022)

In partnership with Tom Clifford, from the Office of Advancement and Community Engagement and Andrea Milo, from the Center for Student Engagement and Financial Resources, the library organized a book drive during National Library Week, April 3-9. The books collected were donated to the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Gaithersburg Branch, and will be sold at their annual book sale. Proceeds will come back to USG as scholarship funds for the AAUW Scholarship.

Pride Month Display (June 2022)

CSEF/free2b student group and the Library co-sponsored a special exhibit featuring books about LGBTQ+ issues and featuring LGBTQ+ characters. The display was set up at the front of the Library, attracting patron attention. The display was created in conjunction with a larger setup in the Building III lobby. For the month of June, the Library also featured a question on the “Open Wall” about what makes you proud which students had an opportunity to reflect upon their identities and accomplishments.
