GRADUATE RESEARCH & WRITING BOOTCAMP

Collaborating with MCAS, the library reached 48 students in 3 sessions in summer 2019. The students came from 9 different graduate programs at USG. This past year, we revamped the program offering it as a conference-style series of interactive workshops where students could choose, which sessions they wanted to attend.  Graduate students gained insight into tools to find and manage sources for their research, ways to  strategically read at the graduate level, insights on interpreting and critically analyzing  data and the methodologies described in research articles. They also developed skills in technical and scholarly writing. In addition, there were workshops on various software for data analysis and visualization, such as SPSS, R programming language, Tableau, and Excel.

STUDENT EMPLOYEE TRAINING DAY

A new student training day was introduced in August which included information literacy instruction sessions and a seminar with campus I.T. staff, security, and Student and Academic Services (SAS). The training was expanded in January and was made available to other student employees on campus.

FEDERAL WORK STUDY SITE

Working with USG’s SAS, as well as the financial aid offices at both University of Maryland, Baltimore and University of Maryland, College Park, Priddy Library was approved as a recipient site for Federal Work Study funding for qualified student employees.  We also maintained an open communication channel for eventual approval seeking from other members of the nine partner institutions.
